Credits let you record money owed to a contact or company — from an overpayment, a tax adjustment, a refund, or as a courtesy — and apply it toward a future invoice instead of issuing a separate payment.
Types of Credits
Overpayment — a guest or owner paid more than they owed.
Tax — a tax adjustment owed back to the party.
Refund — money owed back for a cancellation or other refundable charge.
Courtesy — a credit issued at your discretion.
Issue a Credit
Go to Financials → Credits and click Issue Credit.
Choose the party the credit belongs to — a Contact or a Company.
Select the credit type and enter the amount, then save.
Issuing a credit posts it to your books automatically — there's a dedicated Credits Payable account behind the scenes, so your General Ledger always reflects outstanding credits.
Apply a Credit to an Invoice
From the Credits list or from the invoice itself, choose Apply Credit and select which open credit to use. The invoice detail view shows any credits applied to it alongside its other payments.
View Credits on a Contact or Company
Open a Contact or Company record and check the Credits tab to see its full credit history — issued, applied, and remaining balance.
Void or Reverse a Credit
A credit that was issued in error, or no longer needed, can be voided or reversed from the Credits list — this keeps the full history rather than deleting the record.
