Reconciling in DoorSpot means making sure every transaction from your bank account is recorded in your books with the right category. You do this in Bookkeeping > Transactions: each bank transaction waits in Needs Review until you assign it one or more categories that add up to the bank amount.
Before you begin
Your bank account needs to be added in DoorSpot so its transactions appear here.
Steps
Go to Bookkeeping > Transactions in the left sidebar. The Needs Review tab lists transactions that haven't been categorized yet, with their Date, Description, Amount, and Account.
Click click to categorize on a transaction's row. The Edit transaction panel opens on the right. The bank amount at the top is fixed, and it shows three totals: Transaction, Allocated, and Remaining.
Under Category, click Choose category and pick the account it belongs to, then enter the Amount. Click Add details if you want to add more information to the line.
If the transaction covers more than one thing, click + Add split and add another category and amount. Keep adding lines until Remaining is $0.00 and the panel shows "Fully categorized — lines reconcile to the bank amount."
Click Save. The transaction moves to the Categorized tab.
Good to know
Every line needs both a category and an amount. If a line has an amount but no category, the panel warns you and you can't finish until it's filled in.
Click Exclude in the panel to leave a transaction out of your books — for example, a transfer between your own accounts. Excluded transactions move to the Excluded tab.
Click Create rule in the panel to have DoorSpot categorize similar transactions the same way in the future. Rules are managed under Bookkeeping > Transaction Rules.
To record a transaction that isn't in the list, click Add transaction at the top of the page.
Troubleshooting
Can't save: Check that Remaining is $0.00 and that every line has a category.
A transaction is missing from Needs Review: Check the Categorized and Excluded tabs — it may already have been handled.
